Schroeder Propels the Hawks Back Into the Win Column

HAMBURG, N.Y. –    The Hilbert College women's basketball got back to their winning ways after earning a 63-39 AMCC win over Franciscan University this afternoon.

THE BASICS

HIGHLIGHTS
Freshman Ashley Schroeder, who established a new career-high 19 points, carried the Hawks through the first half netting 17 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Barons scored the first bucket in the game at 8:33 while the Hawks struggled from the floor.
  • Ashley Schroeder lifted Hilbert by one, converting all three free throw attempts at 5:51.
  • Both teams traded baskets until the end of the opening quarter with the score knotted at 13-13.
  • Schroeder reached from downtown three times in the second quarter, leading the Hawks with 11 of the team's 15 points.
  • Hilbert took a 28-26 advantage to the locker room and, after giving up four quick points at the start of the third, the Hawks defensive efforts made the difference in the second half.
  • Hilbert held Franciscan to eight points in the 3rd and five points in the 4th quarters.
  • Hilbert went on a 7-0 run and built a 12-point margin twice late in the third quarter.
  • Franciscan was whistled for seven fouls and hit only 4-of-14 shots from the floor while turning over the ball five time in ten minutes.
  • The Barons trimmed the margin back down to six points (44-38) at 7:50 and then connected only one more time from the charity stripe as the Hawks rolled to a win.
  • Hilbert tossed in 19 points in the fourth quarter with five different players connecting from the floor.
GAME NOTES
  • Schroeder sank 5-of-8 from the floor and hit all four 3-point attempts as well as all three free throws in the first 20-minutes of action.
  • Macy Kisner collected her second career double-double after combining 12 points with 11 rebounds and Emily Gawlak matched her offensive effort with another 12 points.
  • Taylor Corts led the Hawks with four assists and added eight points.
  • The Hawks, who forced 21 Baron turnovers, outscored the visitors 25-2 in points off turnovers.
  • Hilbert held a slight edge in rebounds and turned their 19 offensive rebounds into 13 second-chance points.
 WHAT'S NEXT

Hilbert will travel over the Skyway this week when they head to Medaille College January 22.  The Hawks claimed a 79-69 victory over the Mavs (1-15, 1-10) in early December.
