The Short Fence Meant Little to Hilbert and Behrend in AMCC Action

HAMBURG, N.Y. – The Hilbert College softball team lost the Home Run battle in Game 1 to Penn State Behrend who earned a 13-5 victory in 5 innings.

The Lions poured a few more runs over the fence in the nightcap win (10-3) to improve to 23-9 and 14-2 in the AMCC.

GAME 1

Three different Hawks reached for yard while four Lions shared five home runs in the early contest.

Top ranked Behrend opened the game with back-to-back homers and after just three batters, the Lions held a 3-0 lead.

Gabriella Bongiorno hit her first HR of the season and made it a 6-2 game by the top of the 3rd inning.

Behrend sent another over the yellow plastic line in the third and Maia Delaney matched that poke in the bottom half, but the Hawks still trailed 9-3 by the 4th.

After putting only one run on the board, Behrend held a 7-run lead before they hit back-to-back homers again in the 5th which lifted them 13-3.

Not to be out done, Morgan McNeill responded in the bottom half, earning her first shot over the fence this year.

Maia Delaney went 2-for-3 and McNeill and Bongiorno added 2 RBI each.

GAME 2

The Lions connected for 16 hits which led to 10 RBIs.  They reached twice beyond the fence and scored runs in five of the seven innings.

The Hawks matched offensive efforts in the 1st inning with a 2-2 score by the start of the 2nd.

McNeill and Bongiorno pushed in a pair of unearned runs early and Maia Delaney scored off a wild pitch in the bottom of the 7th.

Marisa McIntyre struck out three, walked three and gave up four earned runs in the 13 hit, six innings of work.
