Women's Soccer Drops Match At Houghton

Houghton, N.Y. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's soccer team lost its away match at Houghton on Tuesday night by a score of 7-0.

The Panthers fell behind early as the Highlanders kept the majority of possession in the Panther half. Starting goalkeeper Emily Bethel made 5 early saves to keep the game scoreless, but the hosts were able to break the tie in the 11th minute. After they added a second two minutes later, the Panthers were able to venture into the Houghton end, where Delaney Stowe was able to get a shot on target. Unfortunately, the opportunity did not change momentum completely, as Houghton was able to move the ball back into the Panther end, where they dominated possession for the rest of the half. They added two more goals in the first half to go into the half leading 4-0.

After the break, The Highlanders regained their momentum, scoring three more times in fifteen minutes. The Panthers were able to get more possession in the second half, as Alexis Gibbons was able to move forward and find enough space to take two shots. She put one of them on net to force a Houghton save.

Emily Bethel started for the Panthers and made 12 saves. Sadie Wood replaced Bethel for the final 26 minutes. Wood made 4 saves to keep the Highlanders off the board for the remainder of the game. Lexi Gibbons led the Panthers with 2 shots, putting one on goal. Delaney Stowe took the other, and put it n target.

The Panthers (0-6-1, 0-1 AMCC) return to AMCC play over the weekend. They will take on Mount Aloysius on Saturday with the game scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
