Win over Mavericks puts La Roche at No. 3 Seed for Post Season

PITTSBURGH, PA - The last time the Redhawks faced Medaille they won by the skin of their teeth by a singular basket. Tonight they proved that they were the better team and were able to come out with a seven point victory over the Mavericks (83-76).

As we honored the late Coach Scott Lang tonight it was only fitting that it was raining threes on his court tonight. The leading culprit, sophomore Joe Pipilo. Pipilo netted five from behind the arc for a total of 15 of his 25 points. His other 10 points came from field goals where he shot 56 percent from the field.

During this game there were five lead changes and four ties. The Mavs had the largest lead of the night with 12 points ahead of LRU.

The battle of the game was mostly fought in the paint. The Mavs put up 40 points in the paint, and La Roche put up 42. Isiah Thomas led the charge in the paint and put up 16 points. He also snagged four rebounds.

The Redhawks defense forced the Mavs into 15 turnovers, and turned those turnovers into 18 points, and 23 second chance points. Kadyn Hannah captained the offensive rebounds and 14 points, six from second chance opportunities.

The final Redhawk to earn double digits in tonight's contest was Joe Staryznski with 10 points, he also led the team in assists with five.

At the end of the regular season the men's basketball team was declared a no. 3 seed, and will host no. 6 Hilbert in the quarterfinals at home on Tuesday, February 22 at 7 PM.
