BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Hilbert College women's soccer team opened their 2017 season with a hard fought 2-1 loss to Cazenovia College this afternoon in the first round of the Spartan Classic hosted by D'Youville College.

Freshman Josephine Ban, scoring her first collegiate goal, put the Hawks on the board first late in the 12th minute.  Emily Gawlak's feed to the box led to Ban's ball that beat the Wildcat keeper at 12:52.

Cazenovia forced a 1-1 tie by intermission and then won the game in the 88th minute with a looping shot from outside the box.

Jenna Castricone was credited with ten saves in her first game of her final season. 

Cazenovia outshot the Hawks 16-14 with the Wildcat keeper getting credit for 12 saves.

Hilbert returns to action tomorrow morning at 12:15pm at Dopson Field against SUNY Potsdam.
