Men's Soccer Tops Alfred St.

ALFRED, NY. - Penn State Harrisburg's men's soccer team defeated Alfred State 2-1 in a non-conference matchup on the road Saturday evening, Sept. 24. The Lions (4-2-3, 1-0-1 United East) picked up their fourth win of the season and second win in Alfred, NY this year.

 

The Lions' Tyler Madairy helped the Blue & White strike first in the 20th minute of the first half. The first goal of the year for Madairy was assisted by Ethan Cortes. Penn State Harrisburg added another goal just nine minutes later when Marc Rodgers found Katim Nije in the box to increase their lead to two goals.

 

The hometown Pioneers (3-3-2, 0-0-0 AMCC) added a goal of their own just before the half as Nuri Sarbuda netted his fourth goal of the year to cut the lead to one. The second half proved not to be in the Pioneers favor, since they were held to just one shot on goal by the Lion's defense. 

 

Penn State Harrisburg goaltender Esteban Leon picked up his first win in the net on the season. The win for the Cali, Colombia native also marked the first one of his career.

- Penn State Harrisburg outshot the Pioneers 12-4 overall and 7-2 in shots on goal.

- The Lions finished with a 3-1 advantage in corner kicks.

- Leon made two saves in goal for Penn State Harrisburg.

- Goalkeeper Thaddeus Grierson was the star for Alfred State, making seven stops on the night.

WHO'S NEXT?

The Lions return home to Middletown to face Neumann in a non-conference outing on Wednesday evening. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
