HAMBURG, N.Y. – The Hilbert College women's soccer team suffered a 2-1 AMCC loss to Franciscan University today.

Imarie Waller's score gave Hilbert hopes as they knotted the game and closed out the first half, but the Barons, 10-4-1 (5-1), netted their game-winner with six minutes remaining to squeak out a road win over the 4-9 (1-5) Hawks.  Franciscan stays in second place in the league and Hilbert is pulling for a chance to steal a play-off spot as they close out the regular season schedule.

Junior Erin Smith started in goal for the Hawks today and had a great game.  She broke up plays early in the first half and kept the Barons off the score board.  But at 19:49, Franciscan found the corner to take a 1-0 lead.  The Hawks did not back down and played aggressive the rest of the period.

At 44:43 Imaire Waller scored her second goal of the season when she struck home a rebounded ball to knot the game heading into half 1-1.

The field was wet and the rain came down in spurts.  It did not rain most of the game, but occasionally the wind picked up.  The field held a lot of water from the overnight rains and there were sections of the sidelines and in the middle of the field where standing puddles became obstacles.  It was anything but freezing weather but rather a challenge to see who could play and judge balls better.

Hilbert held a 6-5 advantage of shots and forced Franciscan's keeper into three saves while Erin Smith made only one save in the 1-1 game.

The Barons won the second half battle, outshooting the Hawks 10-4 and found four corner kicks as they pushed the goal line.

Hilbert's defensive core kept the Barons out of the box and limited their attack through most of the next forty-five minute period.  But at 83:41 the Baron's footed a crossed-ball to the back of the net and held on for their road win.

Jennifer Colvin led the Hawks with five shots and Megan Van Norman chipped two towards the visiting goalie.  Erin Smith finished with four saves on the day.

Prior to the start of the game, the program recognized their three seniors who were able to celebrate their final home weekend game with their families who traveled to Hamburg.  Breana Cline, Chelsea Olson and Megan Van Norman were honored at midfield with their families and team mates before the game's first kick.

The Hawks return to action in their final home game of the 2014 season this Wednesday, October 22nd when they battle cross-town rival Medaille College.  The athletic department and team will celebrate their Pink Day during both the men's and women's game and they encourage their fans to come support Breast Cancer Awareness month.
