POTSDAM, N.Y.  – The Hawks Volleyball team returned to action this morning and suffered a pair of non-conference defeats on Day 2 in the North Country Classic hosted by SUNY Potsdam today.

HOW IT HAPPENED Utica

• After falling behind early in the first set, the Hawks took a 6-4 lead.  Hilbert knotted the score again at 7's and pulled within two points (10-12) before Utica went on a run to pull away with the 25-15 win.
• Hilbert fell behind by seven points midway through the second set (7-14) and never recovered as they fell 25-10.
• The Hawks battled throughout the third set, building their largest lead 20-14 fueled by a pair of kills and a service ace.  Utica strung together six straight points, evened the set at 22-all but the Hawks played for the win, earning two kills off their final three points for the 25-22 victory.
• Utica hit the court on fire in the fourth set, building a 15-3 margin before giving the Hawks a service error point.  Hilbert converted four more points off kills before falling 25-10 in the four-set loss.
• Hilbert collected 31 kills, three service aces, five blocks, and 49 digs.
• Jenna Revak led with eight kills and 11 digs while Maria Spinelli tossed down six kills for the Hawks.  Jaden Helbig was credited with 21 assists and Katie Kociszewski added two block solos and shared three block assists with Spinelli.

 HOW IT HAPPENED Potsdam

• The Hawks pulled within four points (4-8) in the opening plays of the first set but quickly had to battle back when they found themselves down 15-7.  Each time the Hawks pulled within five, the Bears stretched their advantage to take the first set, 25-17.
• Hilbert jumped right back into the second set, took multiple leads early and held a 7-7 score.  Potsdam went on a seven-point run which kept the Hawks at a distance as the Bears won 25-14.
• The Hawks earned three kills but found themselves down 13-4 midway through the third set.  By the final 25-12 match score, Hilbert earned three more points to close the day.
• Hilbert collected 19 kills, two service aces, one block, and 30 digs.
• Maria Spinelli led with seven kills, Jaden Helbig passed for 13 assists and Casandra Thompson produced another double-digit dig performance with 13 digs.
