Barth Tallies First of Season In Loss
Box Score MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – After trailing by a one goal at half time, the Hilbert College men's soccer team gave up four unanswered tallies in the second half and fell to Morrisville State 6-1 September 16.
Matthew Barth scored his first goal of the season as Hilbert fell to 1-4-1 and Morrisville improved to 5-2-1.
The Mustang's Julian Rodriguez opened the game with a goal in the fifth minute. Barth gave Hilbert a lift with his unassisted shot at 14:05 and both teams played even until Rodriguez struck again eight minutes before intermission.
By the final horn, Rodriguez earned seven points with a single assist on the host's fifth goal and a breakaway score at 81:59.
Brandon Henry was credited with six saves before
Ryan Valentine finished the last 13:57 minutes of the match. The rookie goalie stopped one shot but giving up two goals during his time in net.
Morrisville outshot the Hawks 23-5 and held a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks. Barth and
Daniel Pulaski were the only Hawks to unleash shots-on-goal.
Hilbert travels back to Hamburg and will host Thiel College in a double-header with the women's teams this Saturday September 20. The Hawks will recognize James Knapp, a 2012 graduate of the program, during the contest as part of their annual alumni connection.
