Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Second Quarter Melt-Down Hurt Hawks

GREENSBURG, Pa. – The Hilbert College women's basketball team dropped a 62-47 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference road game this afternoon to Pitt-Greensburg as they moved to 8-7 overall and evened their league record at 4-4.  The Bobcats improved to 6-9 and also knotted their AMCC results at 4-4.

Both teams are now tied for fifth place in the 10-team league with one more game still to be played (January 18) before everyone starts the second half of the 18-game AMCC schedule.

Shannon Rogers led the Hawks with 17 points, padding nine hits from the foul line.  The sophomore forward also finished as the game-leader with five steals while grabbing seven rebounds.

Katelyn Proy went six-for-seven from the floor and finished with 14 points, seven rebounds,  three steals and for the first time this season, she was not credited with any block shots.

Kelsi Ebert was the third Hawk to reach double digits as she tossed in 11 points and intercepted two steals.

It was an even game on the score board.  Greensburg won the first and third quarter scorings by 1 point (16-15) and (9-8) while the Hawks won the fourth quarter (14-13).  But it was a rough defensive second quarter for Hilbert as they gave up 24 points while only knocking in 10 of their own.

At 5:41 in the second period, Greensburg held a 25-23 lead.  Twice the Bobcats stretched their lead to six points before they knocked down a long ball to start a 9-0 run to close the half with a 40-25 advantage.

Hilbert picked up their defensive presence in the second half and held the hosts to a low 21.7% field goal percentage.  The Bobcats struggled from beyond the arc hitting only 1-of-11, but the 15-point 1st half difference was too much ground for the Hawks to cover in the second half.

Both teams crashed the offensive boards earning 15+ boards; Hilbert was only credited with 8-second chance points while the Bobcats collected 15.

Hilbert now travels to Penn State Behrend (7-8, 5-3 AMCC 4th) Monday, January 18 to close-out the first half portion of the league schedule.  The Hawks will then return to the Hafner Recreation Center Thursday, January 21 for their second meeting against last-placed Medaille (1-13, 1-7).
