LAGRANGE, Ga. – Penn State Altoona men's basketball was handed a 69-50 loss by Berry College on Sunday afternoon in day two of the Wingate by Wyndham Classic at LaGrange College's Mariotti Gym.

"Tough loss tonight against a very good Berry squad. Our effort was there, but our execution wasn't," said Penn State Altoona head coach David McGreal. "We took too many ill-advised shots and forced shots that weren't there. Our defense was solid, especially in the second half when we held them to only 24 points, but we weren't able to gain much ground because our shots weren't falling."

Shevelle Bailey (Titusville, FL/Titusville) led Penn State Altoona (1-4) in scoring with 11 points, and he also recorded three rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Austin Krise (Allport, PA/West Branch) added 10 points, five rebounds, and three steals.

Marshall Higley (Sayre, PA/Sayre) finished with nine points, and Jalen Archie-Davis (Norcross, GA/Norcross) had eight points. Cameron Gardner-Nicholson (Philadelphia, PA/Boys' Latin Charter) grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.

Berry (5-1) got a game-high 15 points from Dawson Wehunt, as well as 13 points from Ethan Haslam. Caleb Haynes and Quinn Atkinson added 10 points apiece for the Vikings.

Berry cruised to a 45-24 advantage by halftime. A pair of three-pointers by Wehunt helped the Vikings to a 25-16 lead by 8:21, and Drew Cummings' jumper at 7:54 gave Berry a 27-16 lead. Haynes' layup at 6:42 made it a 10-point game, 29-19. A layup by Elijah Hirsh and a trey from Haslam helped to increase Berry's lead to 37-24 by the 2:59 mark, and Atkinson's three-point play at 1:36 made it 40-24. A layup by Atkinson and another three-pointer from Wehunt gave Berry a 45-24 halftime lead.

Berry took its largest lead of the game, 49-25, at 16:57 on a layup from Haynes. The Vikings maintained a double-digit lead throughout the second half, defeating Penn State Altoona by 19 points in the end.

Now, Penn State Altoona men's basketball will turn its focus on Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference play. The Lions will host nearby AMCC rival Mount Aloysius College for a home game in the Adler Arena this Wednesday, November 28 at 8:00 p.m.
