ELMIRA, N.Y. - For the third time in the last three games, the Hilbert College women's volleyball team suffered a 3-1 defeat.

But today's loss at Elmira College (25-19, 25-10, 24-26, 25-17) pushed the Hawks' set-by-set record in 2019 (3) beyond their final tally in 2018 (2).

Hilbert and Elmira traded points early in the first set until the Soaring Eagles went on a 6-point run taking a 13-7 lead. Elmira stretched their lead to 20-13 and held on for the 25-19 win.

The Hawks fell behind in the second set 19-10 and gave up six unanswered points in the 25-10 loss.

Hilbert and Elmira traded points again in the third set with the Hawks taking an 8-5 hold early. Elmira rebounded, built a 17-13 score but the Hawks fought back.  

Hilbert tied the game (19-19) and maintained the lead even after Elmira knotted the game two more times (21-21 & 24-24). Cassandra Thompson's kill along with an Elmira attack error pushed the Hawks to victory - 26-24.

The hosts jumped out to a 10-4 lead, stretched it to 20-11 and put the game away 25-17 for the match win.

Elmira won the game at the net with 46 kills and from the service box posting 19 points of service aces.

Ashley Repine finished with 11 kills, 12 digs and two digs (one solo).

Makenna Anastasia did a nice job at the net collecting eight kills (.273).

Ashley Page led with 20 assists along with seven digs. 

The Hawks (0-5) will travel to Westminster September 17 before they head to the Alfred University Invitational September 20 & 21.
