Behrend Softball Brings Bats Out in Wins Over Pitt-Bradford

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend softball team combined for 26 hits and scored 22 runs in a pair of wins over Pitt-Bradford in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action on Wednesday. The Lions shut out the Panthers in game one and tallied a 17-4 win in game two. 

Game One: Penn State Behrend 5, Pitt-Bradford 0
Records: Penn State Behrend (15-11, 9-2 AMCC), Pitt-Bradford (6-17, 2-3 AMCC)

Key Moments:

Ashleigh Schmidt (Sarver, PA/Freeport) threw a one-hit shutout, fanning nine for her seventh win 
* Behrend scored runs in the odd innings except the seventh
* A Jocelyn McNany (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) ground out got the Lions on the board in the first 
Maria Jones (Wilcox, PA/Johnsonburg) scored the run in the first and the second in the third on a single by Cami McNany (Emlenton, PA/Allegheny-Clarion Valley)
* Behrend added three more runs in the fifth
* With runners on the corners, Samantha Manioci (Rochester, NY/Odyssey Academy) tripled to score a pair of runs and then came home on an error to make it 5-0
* C. McNany went 3-for-4 on the day and Manioci had a pair of hits

Game Two: Penn State Behrend 17, Pitt-Bradford 4
Records: Penn State Behrend (16-11, 10-2 AMCC), Pitt-Bradford (6-18, 2-4 AMCC)

Key Moments: 

* The Lions tallied 15 RBIs on 16 hits and scored 17 runs over five innings, marking the most in all three categories this season in a game
* Behrend scored 17 unanswered runs in two innings for the win
* The Lions recorded seven runs in the fourth and 10 in the fifth
* Senior pitcher Alaina Wyckoff (Elma, NY/Iroquois Central) came in relief for the win, holding the Panthers to three hits in the final 2.1 innings
* Jones tallied her first home run of the season and added a double for three RBIs
* C. McNany had two doubles and four RBIs
