Baseball Drops Two In Buffalo

BUFFALO, N.Y. – In the second day away from Hamburg, the Hilbert College baseball team hosted Medaille College at McCarthy Park this afternoon in a double header AMCC contest.  The Hawks struggled to score runs as they dropped a pair of games, 14-3 and 19-3.

Eric Flores knocked in two runs in the opening game while Kevin Moore repeated that effort in the second game.

GAME 1

Medaille jumped on Hilbert right out the gate, building a 7-run lead before the Hawks picked up their bats.  The Hawks scored three runs in the bottom of the inning and then were shut out after that. The Mavs posted a run in the next five innings to take the win.

Flores earned one hit, but that double to the right field sent two runners home.  Brandon Zicari followed with a sacrifice fly scoring Flores for the three runs.

Dalton Reynolds went 3-for-3 at the plate while Winfred Nelson finished four innings with eight earned runs and 12 hits.

GAME 2

Medaille took a 5-1 lead through three innings.  Hilbert sliced the difference to two runs (5-3) when Ryan Bonafede singled through the left side sending Taylor Haug home in the third inning.  Moore cleared the bags with his double 2RBI to centerfield in the fifth inning finishing the Hawks scoring for the day.

Bonafede went 3-for-4 with a hit in the head by pitch and Moore and Tristan Aldinger each earned two hits.

Henry Bowers fell to 4-4 after going six innings striking out three, with 10 hits and seven earned runs.

Hilbert has a few days off before they close their 2017 AMCC season with a road double header on April 28 at Pitt-Greensburg.  The Hawks will honor their seniors May 2 when they host Keuka College in a non-conference double header.
