OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Hilbert College men's soccer team suffered a 5-0 loss to Union College in the opening game of the Oswego Tournament August 29.  The Hawks turn the page and will battle Cazenovia College, a 2-1 loser to the Oswego, at 1pm August 30.

Union laced the ball just under the crossbar in the third minute of the contest and added a second marker before half time.  With a 15-4 shots advantage, Union held a 2-0 at the break.

To mirror the opening minutes of the first half, the Hawks surrendered a second-half letdown in the third minute and allowed another Union goal at 48:19.  Hilbert's defense silenced the Engineers during the middle portion of the second half, but two more balls found the back of the net before the final horn.

Brandon Henry was credited with three saves (four goals) in the 69:08 minutes of play before Ryan Valentine protected the frame the last 20:52. Union's Ryan Carter finished with three saves, all off the foot of Hilbert's Matt Hamister.

Hilbert didn't match the offensive fire-power of Union, who outshot the Hawks 28-7.  Union also pushed the frame and was awarded eight corner kicks to Hilbert's three.

Hamister unleased a team-high three shots  and received some support from Daniel Pulaski, Tyler Eister, Austin Mathis and William Vedder, who each footed three attempts.

Hilbert, 0-1, will challenge Cazenovia in the consolation game while Oswego hosts Union in the championship game August 30. Fans can view game results via the Live Stats link.
