Bethany Takes Loss to Penn State-Altoona

Sept. 16 - BETHANY, W. Va - The Bethany women's soccer team dropped their match with Penn State Altoona 3-2 on Friday.

Senior Madison Cochran put matters into her own hands 10 minutes in when she stole the ball from a Lion and dribbled right in front of the net and finished top right to put Bethany up 1-0.

Just three minutes later, after a scrum in front of the Bethany net, a foul was called. A penalty kick was awarded to Rhi Miller of Altoona where she netted the equalizer.

Bethany had an answer just shortly after. Junior Michaela Hinerman (Weirton, W. Va./Brooke) took a corner kick and her shot was saved by the goalie but off the rebound, senior Marena Cline (Follansbee, W. Va./Brooke) found the back of the net to put the hosts back on top.

Altoona would then answer with two goals within five minutes of each other to give them the 3-2 lead with 20 minutes left in the first half. The score would hold until half.

For the first part of the second half, Altoona had a lot of the offensive pressure. However, at the 20-minute mark, Bethany started gaining some momentum in the offensive zone.

Despite the extra push on offense, the Bison were unable to net a goal in the final stretch.

With the loss, Bethany falls to 2-4 on the year. They are back in action next Tuesday when they travel to Hiram for a non-conference tilt to start at 7:30 p.m.
