Women's Basketball On A Roll, Ebert Ties All-Time Assist Record

HAMBURG, N.Y. – Five players scored in double figures as the Hilbert College women's basketball team outpaced the Medaille Mavericks tonight, 72-48.

Hilbert (5-3) stays unbeaten in league play at 3-0 and have gotten off to the program's best AMCC start since the Hawks joined the league in 2004-05.   The Mavs dropped their first AMCC game and evened their record all around at 1-1 and 4-4 overall.

Kelsi Ebert notched 24 points in the victory hitting 4-of-7 from deep sometimes with a hand in her face.  Ebert, with her five assists tonight, is one helper short of becoming the women's basketball program's All Time leader after she matched 249 exactly.  The senior guard also scooped five steals in 40 minutes.

"This was a great team-win all around," said coach Amy Senefelder.  "We had a variety of options because the Hawks came focused on the game plan and our shooting percentage backed up their efforts; especially from the free throw line."

Hilbert was very consistent offensively, hitting 46.6% from the floor each half.  The Hawks sank 6-of-14 3-pointers and made 14 of their 19 free throw attempts.

Katelyn Proy held her own against the previous Division III national player of the week, Dani Reinwald.  Proy finished with 10 points (4-of-8) and pulled down nine rebounds but it was her defensive presence that caused Reinwald problems.  Proy was credited with only two blocked shots but she altered and forced Reinwald and the rest of the Mavs into rushed and off balance shots.

Emily Gawlak continues to provide a strong defensive presence and offensive spark.  She attacked the rim all night and helped set-up her teammates along the perimeter for open jumpers.  Gawlak worked the full court defensively and earned a quick steal into a layup in the 3rd quarter and finished with 11 points.  The 5-7 guard collected 10 rebounds which also lifted her into her second career double-double.

The Hawks depth inside propelled the hosts to the 24-point victory.  Ashley Repine drove hard to the hoop and earned 10 points while Maegann Mein returned to action and posted her first double-digit scoring night.  The sophomore went 4-for-5 from the floor and hit a pair of free throws totaling 10 points.

Hilbert never trailed in the game and outscored the Mavericks each quarter.  They built a 21-point lead in the third quarter and finished with the double digit victory after foul shots extended the game late in the final session.

Dani Reinwald led Medaille with 16 points, 17 rebounds and five steals.

Hilbert returns to action this weekend when they travel to Pittsburgh to battle the preseason favorites, La Roche College.  The Redhawks, who are off to a very uncharacteristic 2-5 overall and 1-1 league record, will host the Hawks December 9.
