Hawks Baseball Sweeps Medaille In Rain-Soaked Action

NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. - For the second time in two years, the Hilbert College baseball team swept Medaille College in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference and Buffalo Cup action.

Zachary Crane tossed his fourth complete game of the season guiding the Hawks from start to finish in a 7-3 win before Hilbert outlasted the Mavericks in a 9-8 rain-soaked see-saw battle in the nightcap.

GAME ONE

Austin O'Shei went 2 for 3 with 3 RBI as the Hawks earned eight hits and seven RBIs  in the win.

Medaille got on board first with a long hit over the fence, but that didn't rattle Zachary Crane.

Noah Welch doubled to left center and scored Jonathan Wilson and Zach Amato's single scored Welch for Hilbert's 3-1 lead after two innings.

The Mavericks went up by two runs again in the 4th but O'Shei's sac fly evened the game at 4-4 in the bottom half.

Tristan Aldinger (RBI single) and O'Shei (2RBI) gave the Hawks the cushion they needed for the 7-3 victory.

Crane faced 30 batters, gave up 10 hits, two walks and four earned runs in his second win this spring.  In his seven starts, Crane leads the AMCC with 4 complete games.

GAME TWO

Hilbert built a 3-0 lead after the 3rd and tacked on four more runs in the bottom of the 5th to take a 7-2 lead.

The Mavericks manufactured six runs in the top of the 7th and jumped a head, 8-7, but Hilbert responded in the bottom half with 2 runs earning the win.

Tristan Aldinger found his timing in the nightcap leading the Hawks with three hits, falling short of a cycle without reaching over the fence.  The senior CF's RBI double in the 3rd helped the Hawks to a 2-0 advantage.  He closed the game with a 2RBI triple in the bottom of the 7th lifting Hilbert back on top for the win.

Austin O'Shei, who had three stolen bases, hit an RBI triple just before Griffith DeMayo followed suit with another 3-bagger which scored O'Shei in the 5th.

Zach Amato (3 for 5s) and also notched a triple marking the first game in several years where four different Hilbert players connected for triples in one game.

The Hawks pitching staff struck out only two Mavericks but limited them to three earned runs off eight hits.

Daniel Munn opened the game with 4.2 innings of work before Noah Welch and Anthony DiNizo attempted to tame the Medaille bats.  Michael Goodberry closed giving up one hit and two walks in his 1st win of season over 2.1 innings.

Instead of hosting a non-conference game against Fredonia tomorrow (4/17) the Hawks will board the bus for Pitt-Greensburg.  Hilbert will now square off against the Bobcats on Thursday, April 18 in a 1pm DH.
