Women's Tennis Wins Nail-biter Against Juniata

VALENCIA, Pa. - The Redhawks defeated the visting Juniata Eagles this afternoon on their home court 5-4 to improve to 2-4 on the season. The match tonight breaks a three game losing streak for La Roche and marks their first non-conference win of the year. Head coach Stephanie Smith emphasized the performances of Junior's Alexandra Mroczkowski and Jazmyn Davis. The duo each won their individual matchups in the same contest for the first time all season. They also won their second doubles match of the season 8-6. Overall, singles went 3-3 and doubles 2-1.

  • First Singles: Junior Rochelle Selzer was defeated in two sets tonight 6-3, 6-2. She is now 3-2 at first singles this season and 4-2 overall. 
  • Second Singles: Freshman Alexandra Jaksec defeated her opponent in two sets 6-2, 6-2 to improve to 4-1 at second singles this season. She is 4-2 in total singles matches. 
  • Third Singles: Junior Jazmyn Davis collected her second straight win in gutsy performance against Sophomore Kady Lohr 6-4, 7-6 (5). Davis is 2-0 in tiebreaker sets this season.
  • Fourth Singles: Junior Alexandra Mroczkowski defeated her opponent in two sets 6-1, 6-1. The 10 game margin of victory is Allie's largest this season.
  • Fifth & Sixth Singles: First year players Sophomore Alena Matthew & Maniya each lost their individual matches 6-0, 6-0. 
  • At first doubles, Selzer and Jaksec picked up their fourth win this season in 10 games (8-2).
