Late Run Lifts Pioneers

The Alfred State Pioneers won a close game against Pitt.- Bradford 66-59.

After a close first quarter found Alfred State up one point 11-10, after a Taylor Benjamin three pointer fell as the quarter ended. The Pioneers came out firing in quarter two, as a team the Pioneers shot 6-16 from the field in the second quarter and 4-8 from three. The Blue and Gold took a 28-20 lead heading into the locker room. The lead stayed with ASC after three quarters, fighting off multiple Bradford scoring runs.

In the fourth quarter both teams traded baskets, the first 5 minutes saw 6 lead changes. Tied at 56 with 2 minutes left, the Pioneers went on a 9-0 run, taking a commanding 65-56- lead and riding it to the end of the game.

Some stat leaders for the Pioneers include:

Faith McCombs: Double-double with 11 points and 14 rebounds. The fifth leading rebounder in the country had another monster day on the boards.

Taylor Benjamin: Points leader with 20 and tallied 8 boards and shot 10-14 from the charity stripe. 

Falyn Lewis-Ellison: Shot 6-12 from the field with 15 points and 3 assists.

The Pioneers are back in action at home against Penn.- St. Altoona for a 4 p.m. tip on Saturday, February 4.
