CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. – Penn State Altoona men's volleyball took on a pair of old rivals from the Lions' days as a member of the North Eastern Athletic Conference on Saturday afternoon, facing Keuka College and Wilson College in Wilson's Nelson Gymnasium.

The Lions (9-11) suffered a 3-1 loss to Keuka in their first match of the day before bouncing back to win 3-1 against Wilson in the second match.

Match One: Keuka 3, Penn State Altoona 1

Penn State Altoona got off to a good start by winning the opening set 25-23. But Keuka (12-9) countered by taking the next three sets by scores of 25-16, 25-21, and 25-17 to win the match.

Ben Beaver (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) led the Lions in blocks, assists, and tied for the team-high in kills, finishing the match with four total blocks (two solo blocks, two block assists), tallying 16 assists, and accumulating nine kills. Frank Perehinec (Altoona, PA/Altoona) also had nine kills, and he finished with three total blocks (two solo blocks, one block assist).

Brian Sheddy (Shrewsbury, PA/Susquehannock) contributed eight kills, eight digs, one solo block, and one block assist. He also served up one ace to tie the Penn State Altoona men's volleyball program's single season record for aces with 27. That mark of 27 aces in a season was accomplished just twice before, both by former Lion standout Jacob Byers, who did the feat in the 2014 and 2017 seasons.

Jon Ramsey (Pittsburgh, PA/Shaler) added six kills, and Dan Downs (Douglassville, PA/Daniel Boone) had four kills, one solo block, and one block assist.

Tyler Chan (Framingham, MA/Framingham) recorded a season-high 23 digs to lead all players in the match. That mark ties for the fourth-most digs in any match by a player in Penn State Altoona men's volleyball history, and it also ties for the second-most digs in a four-set match in team history.

Match Two: Penn State Altoona 3, Wilson 1

The Lions recovered from their defeat in their first match of the day by taking down Wilson (4-12) in four sets. Penn State Altoona battled to a 29-27 win in the first set, but the Phoenix evened the score by winning the second set 25-16. However, the Lions answered with 25-20 and 25-22 victories in the next two sets to clinch the match.

Perehinec totaled a season-high 13 kills to lead the Lions' offensive efforts, and he also finished with one solo block and one block assist. Sheddy had 10 kills and tied for the team lead in digs with 11. He also tied the team-high in aces with three, moving into first place on the Penn State Altoona men's volleyball program's single season record category for aces. Sheddy's total of 30 service aces this season now represents a program-high for a single year.

Downs added eight kills and two block assists, and Daniel Jordan (Pittsburgh, PA/Thomas Jefferson) had six kills, one solo block, and one block assist. Ramsey contributed four kills, three aces, and a solo block.

Beaver again handled the primary setting duties, finishing with a season-high 29 assists to go along with a team-high five total blocks (three solo blocks, two block assists). Chan tied for the team-high in digs with 11.

As a team, the Lions racked up nine aces, tying for the most aces in a four-set match in team history.

Next up, Penn State Altoona men's volleyball hits the road for another non-conference match on Tuesday, March 26, when the Lions will travel to play Elizabethtown College at 7:00 p.m.
