Women’s Soccer Earns Second AMCC Win at Hilbert

HAMBURG, N.Y. – Penn State Altoona women's soccer picked up its second Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference victory of the season on Thursday afternoon, when the Lions overpowered Hilbert College for a 4-1 victory at Hawks Field.

Sadie McConnell (New Enterprise, PA/Northern Bedford) scored two goals for Penn State Altoona (3-5, 2-0 AMCC), while Mallorie Smith (Bellefonte, PA/Bellefonte) finished with a goal and two assists and Sarah Huston had one goal and one assist. The team's total of four goals scored on the day represents its largest goal output of the season, to date.

Adeline Baustert (Apollo, PA/Apollo-Ridge) got the nod between the pipes, making one save and recording her third win of the season.

Penn State Altoona drew first blood early in the first half. Huston passed the ball to McConnell in the right side of the box, and McConnell beat the keeper on a hard angle shot to give the Lions a 1-0 lead just three minutes into the contest. The goal was McConnell's first of the season.

McConnell netted her second goal of the day at 26:28, getting a pass in the box from Smith and beating the keeper on a shot into the left side of the goal to increase Penn State Altoona's advantage to 2-0.

Hilbert (0-4-1, 0-1-1 AMCC) got on the board at 28:58, when Macy Kisner sent a long shot overtop the goalkeeper and into the net, trimming Penn State Altoona's lead to 2-1.

Huston and Smith teamed up to put their team's lead back at two goals early in the second half. Smith dribbled hard into the left side of the box and centered a pass in front of the goal, where Huston was there to chip a shot past the keeper for her second goal of the season, giving Penn State Altoona a 3-1 lead at the 47:57 mark.

Penn State Altoona upped its lead to 4-1 with another goal at 68:47. Audrianna Barnes (Bedford, PA/Chestnut Ridge) passed the ball to the middle for Smith, and Smith dribbled in on goal and sent a shot into the bottom left corner of the net for her second goal this fall. Barnes' assist on the play was her first collegiate point.

The Lions had a dominant showing in the statistical categories, outshooting Hilbert 25-4 in shot attempts and 16-2 in shots on goal. Penn State Altoona also finished the day with a 9-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Smith led all players in the game with eight shot attempts and five shots on goal. KK Wolfe (Coatesville, PA/Coatesville) totaled three shot attempts, putting all of them on goal. McConnell attempted four shots with two shots on goal, and Huston had three shots with two coming on goal.

Penn State Altoona women's soccer has another AMCC contest on the road for its next game, as the Lions will head to Buffalo this Saturday, October 2 to face Medaille College in a 2:00 p.m. matchup.
