Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Vaughn Led With Seven Points, Darrow Made 22 Saves as Hawks Fell In A 13-12 Defeat

EDEN, N.Y. - After falling behind 9-4 by intermission, the Hilbert College women's lacrosse team battled back in the second half and doubled-up Alfred University on the scoreboard but time was not on their side as the Hawks lost to the Saxons, 13-12.

Aaryonah Vaughn led all 22 field players with seven points and she shared game-high honors after scoring four goals (11 shots on goal).  She also scoped five ground balls and was credited with three caused turnovers as she hustled at both ends of the field today.

Calista Mis was another work-horse for the Hawks.  She won six draw controls, attempted eight shots, and earned four points after scoring one goal and assisting on three others.  She spent a lot of time on the turf fighting for shooting angles and digging for loose balls.

Brianna Stegmeier was 3-for-3 on shots on goal conversion and Alayna DeFazio tossed in a pair of goals for the hosts in the second-half comeback.

Sam Lawicki, Nicole Darrow and Ashley Repine all picked-up four ground balls, but it was Repine who finished with a career-high six caused turnovers on defense.

Ashley Binn (2a/1g) and Sam Lawicki (1g) added the final points on the scoreboard for Hilbert.

Nicole Darrow, in her young Hilbert career, produced her best numbers in goal.  She faced 43 shots, made a 22 saves with a .629 save percent, while limiting the Saxons to 13 goals.

Alfred jumped out to a 3-goal lead before Stegmeier beat the Saxon's keeper at 23:41.  Vaughn netted back-to-back goals over a span of 90 seconds around the 20 minute mark and Sam Lawicki scored Hilbert's fourth goal at 5:13.

The second half belonged to Hilbert as they rallied from a five-goal deficit and made it a one-goal game with almost two minutes left.

The Hawks gave up one goal less than 60-seconds into the final period, then strung together four consecutive points, pulling within two (10-8).

Alfred and Hilbert then traded goals, each posting a pair in a row but the Hawks were still two scores behind with over eight minutes left to play.

Alfred scored their final marker at 6:26 as the White and Royal made a fierce effort to force overtime but time ran out.

The Hawks (0-3) return to action next weekend when they travel to Keuka College Saturday, March 30 for their first NEAC league game.  Hilbert will then face D'Youville College at Dobson Field the next day, Sunday, March 31 (1:00 PM).
