Women's Basketball Suffers Loss in NC

RALEIGH, N.C. - The Hilbert College women's basketball team gave it a good fight tonight but the Hawks slipped in a 61-48 loss to Huntingdon College in the opening game of the Jackie Ammons Memorial Tournament. 

William Peace defeated Berry, 78-57, in the night cap of their annual tournament which now pits the Hawks against Berry in the 1pm consolation game November 19.

Hilbert got scoring from nine of the ten players who stepped on the floor tonight and were led in scoring by Taylor Corts who notched 12 points in 35 minutes of action.  She also dished for a team-best five assists and grabbed eight boards.

Shannon Rogers posted nine points and pulled in five rebounds while Kelsi Ebert and Samantha Heiler matched with six points each.

Huntingdon benefited from Jello Weatherspoon's 17 points as well as her six steals.  Jenna Dorman led the floor with 11 rebounds and added four assists.

Hilbert fell behind by a pair of points in the first quarter but slipped a little further by the break, trailing 36-28 at half time. The Hawks were consistent the final two quarters collecting 10 points each period, but they gave up 12 and 14 for the loss.

The Hawks finished the game with better shooting percentage from the floor (32.7% vs 30.2%) but they struggled from the foul line hitting only 9 of 19 attempts while Huntingdon went 17-30.  The Falcons also doubled-up the Hawks on the glass helping them to 11 second chance points.
