Box Score

Erie, Pa. - The Hilbert Hawks women's basketball team had four players reach double-digit scoring in their 87-67 loss to the Lions of Penn State Behrend. Shannon Rogers led the Hawks with fifteen points and was one rebound short of a double-double. Even with four Hawks posting high scoring, Hilbert was outshot 34.3% to 55.6% from the floor, which proved to be the difference.

Haley Oakes knocked down three shots from behind the arc (3-6) and finished the game with 13 points. Wyann Jackson also added 13 points on 6-9 shooting. Kelsi Ebert recorded eleven points and dished out a team-high three assists.

Amber Hay started the game with a blocked shot that turned into a lay-up for her on the other end of the floor. The 2-0 lead was the only lead Hilbert had all night. The Hawks kept the game close, trailing 13-12 with 10:29 remaining in the first half. The Lions went on a 12-1 run over the next three minutes to give themselves a cushioned lead. The Hawks struggled to score, while the Lions were able to get buckets at will and a Brittany Kiger lay-up with 2:34 remaining gave Penn State Behrend their largest lead of the first half at 43-17. Hilbert closed the half with six straight free throws for a halftime score of 48-29.

Oakes' three at the 17:04 mark brought the Hawks within 17 but that was as close as they would come to the Lions for the rest of the night. The second half was similar to the first and Behrend extended their lead to as many as 30 (75-45). Hilbert finished the game with a 22-12 run of their own but the game was too far out of reach and ended with a final score of 87-67.

The two teams were fairly even in terms of points off turnovers, second-chance points, and points in the paint but the difference was the overall shooting percentages. The Lions gained their momentum in the first half by shooting 58.33% from the floor compared to Hilbert's 28.57%.  Each team made five three-pointers but Behrend made 11 more shots from the floor on the night, which gave them the win.

The Hawks (3-19, 2-15 AMCC) will finish their season this Saturday, February 21 at 1pm. Prior to the contest against Penn State Altoona, seniors Amber Hay and Jenah Labuski will be honored.
