Lady Lions Swept in Tuesday Florida Action

LEESBURG, Fla. – Penn State Altoona softball suffered a pair of losses on Tuesday in The Spring Games at the Sleepy Hollow Sports Complex.

In game one, Penn State Altoona (1-7) fell 10-1 to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in six innings, before losing 9-0 to the University of Dubuque in six frames.

Game One: RPI 10, Penn State Altoona 1 (Final/6 innings)

Penn State Altoona was held to four hits and one run by RPI (7-0), who cruised to a run-rule victory over the Lady Lions.

Brooke Colledge (Everett, PA/Everett) had two of Penn State Altoona's four hits, going 2-for-3 at the plate with a stolen base. Abby Showers (Philipsburg, PA/Philipsburg-Osceola) was 1-for-2 with a walk and a run scored, and Lydia Mock (Alum Bank, PA/Chestnut Ridge) was also 1-for-2. Jenna Myers (Garnet Valley, PA/Garnet Valley) had her team's lone run batted in.

Makenzie Lukehart (Utahville, PA/Glendale) started in the circle and pitched 4 1/3 innings, taking the loss. Olivia Miller (West Newton, PA/Yough) tossed 1 2/3 innings in relief.

After RPI scored four runs in the top of the first and two more in the top of the third, Penn State Altoona picked up a run in the bottom of the fourth when Showers led off with a walk and eventually came around to score on Myers' RBI groundout to third.

But the Engineers tacked on two more runs in both the fifth and sixth innings, ending the game one inning early via the run rule.

Game Two: Dubuque 9, Penn State Altoona 0 (Final/6 innings)

Dubuque (6-4) held the Lady Lions to just one hit while plating nine runs.

Colledge was 1-for-2 with a double, recording Penn State Altoona's lone hit of the game.

Jayde Burge (Philipsburg, PA/Philipsburg-Osceola) started in the circle and took the loss, and Miller pitched five innings in relief.

Dubuque scored four runs in the bottom of the first, three in the fourth, and two more in the sixth on a home run to end the game early.

Penn State Altoona softball now heads into its lone day off tomorrow, Wednesday, March 11. After that, the Lady Lions will return to action on Thursday, March 12, when the team will again face RPI at 4:00 p.m. while also taking on Delaware Valley University at 6:15 p.m. Both of those games will be played at the Hancock Recreation Complex in Clermont, Fla.
