BUFFALO, N.Y. – After falling behind early in the game, the Hilbert College men's soccer team gutted out a tough 3-0 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference loss to Medaille College this afternoon.

Both teams fought through the hot turf at Dobson Field and took advantage of multiple water breaks throughout the Buffalo Cup contest. 

The Mavs' deep bench helped them extend their offensive pressure into the second half, even after they built their 3-0 lead by the 24th minute of the opening period which was played in 88 degree weather.

The Hawks defensive core in the back field took away several second half scoring opportunities and protected the frame along with freshman Tucker Reynolds who made nine saves in his third start of the season. 

Medaille held a 14-1 advantage in corner kicks but a good portion of those attempts were given to them off defensive coverage poking the ball away from the box.

"The coaching staff was proud of our teams resiliency and fortitude in the extreme heat,"  said coach Mike Ertel.  "We didn't allow a goal in the second half and we will build on that going into the next match this weekend."

Hilbert was credited with three shots with Garrett Rehner taking the lone shot on goal for the Hawks.

The men's soccer team returns to Hamburg this Saturday for another AMCC match at 1pm.  The Hawks (0-2 AMCC) will host Penn State Altoona as part of the True Blue alumni weekend.
