BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – Penn State Altoona women's volleyball was swept on Tuesday night, losing in three sets to Geneva College in the Metheny Fieldhouse.

Geneva (9-3) prevailed 25-15, 25-23, 25-9.

Penn State Altoona (3-4) struggled to get into a rhythm and was unable to overcome miscues. On offense, the Lady Lions committed 19 attack errors while registering just 17 kills. The team also committed 10 reception errors.

Sara Russo (Lebanon, PA/Cedar Crest) totaled a team-high seven kills for Penn State Altoona, while Jenna Bauer (Ebensburg, PA/Central Cambria) and Lauren Diller (Chambersburg, PA/Chambersburg) finished with three kills each.

Emily Bryan (Waynesboro, PA/Waynesboro) tallied a team-high six assists, while Kayla Moran (Boalsburg, PA/State College) added five assists.

Lexie Dorcon (Berlin, PA/Berlin Brothersvalley) led Penn State Altoona in digs with 10. Bryan posted nine digs, Bauer had eight, Moran recorded seven, and Diller finished with six.

Lilia Farach (Tegucigalpa, Honduras/International School of Panama) led all players in the match with four total blocks, recording two solo blocks and two block assists. Diller also had two solo blocks, and Alexis Cannistraci (Tyrone, PA/Tyrone) added two block assists.

Geneva opened the first set on a 7-1 run, and the Golden Tornadoes went on to lead by as many as 11 points in the set. Up 24-13, the Lady Lions stayed alive with a kill from Cannistraci and a block by Diller, but Geneva used a Penn State Altoona attack error to end the set.

The Lady Lions appeared poised to even the score in the second set, during which they worked out to a 17-10 lead. Two kills from Russo, a block by Farach, and a Geneva attack error helped Penn State Altoona reel off four straight points to establish that seven-point lead, compelling the home team to call a timeout. But the Golden Tornadoes rallied to outscore Penn State Altoona 15-6 the rest of the way, including notching three consecutive kills to account for the final three points of the set.

In the third set, Penn State Altoona stayed within one point of Geneva in the early going, when Farach's kill narrowed the Golden Tornadoes' lead to 7-6. But Geneva outscored Penn State Altoona 18-3 over the remainder of the set.

Next up, Lady Lions volleyball will compete in the Hiram College Invitational this Saturday, September 21. At 12:00 p.m. that day, Penn State Altoona will face Baldwin Wallace University before finishing the day against host Hiram at 2:00 p.m.
