Late Goal Dooms Men's Soccer Against D'Youville

The Wells College men's soccer team fell victim to a late goal and D'Youville College came away with a 4-3 victory on Tuesday, Sept. 10 at the Wells Turf Field.

Five goals were scored in the first half. Wells opened the scoring in the sixth minute when Nathan Soliman slotted a low shot inside the right post on an assist from Peraskeva Tegas. D'Youville tied it in the 20th minute, but Wells regained the lead shortly thereafter. Tegas fired a hard shot from outside of the penalty area that went through the hands of the D'Youville goalkeeper in the 23rd minute. It was the first collegiate goal for Tegas.

D'Youville tied it 2-2, but Wells went ahead late in the first half. Goalkeeper Colton Jaquith sent a long ball downfield where Mekhi Edge-Wallace anticipated the bounce, and one-touched a shot past the oncoming D'Youville keeper for Edge-Wallace's first goal of the season.

D'Youville scored the tying goal early in the second half and the winning goal with 2:16 remaining.

Jaquith made two saves and had an assist. Kevin Schrank assisted on the Tegas goal.

Both teams entered the match with identical records in the early part of the season. D'Youville improved to 3-2-0 and Wells is 2-3-0. The Express returns to the field this weekend with a home match against Morrisville State on Saturday, Sept. 14 at 1:30 p.m.
