The Alfred State men's soccer team scored first but #1 seed Medaille scored four unanswered goals to earn the 4-1 victory and advance to the AMCC Finals. The Pioneers wrap up the 2021 season with a 7-11 record.
Jack Leahy (Pittsford Sutherland) got the Pioneers on the board 11:02 into the game after getting a pass from David Benson (Shenendehowa).
Joey Zachary evened up the game just over four minutes later after getting a pass from Ander Castillo. Castillo gave the Mavericks (13-3-1) the lead for good 22:06 into the contest when he was able to score after getting a crossing pass from Eric Metade.
Medtade added to the lead in the 51st minute and Castillo netted his second of the day in the 57th to add insurance.
Medaille held a 23 to 5 shot advantage in the game. Thad Grierson (Perry) made nine saves for the Pioneers in net while Dante Gesamondo made two saves for the Mavericks.
Medaille will take on #3 Mt. Aloysius in Saturday's AMCC Final.
The 2021 Alfred State team won six more games than the 2019 season. This was the first appearance for the Pioneers in the AMCC Tournament.
