Pioneers Win Thriller

Pioneers Win Thriller

The Alfred State Women's Soccer team won 1-0 today, on a last second goal by Megan Fischer (Bemus Point / Maple Grove).

Defense reigned supreme in todays match, with most of game being played in the midfield. Falyn Lewis-Ellison (Rexville, NY / Whitesville) was a force all game, coming up with countless crucial defensive stops for Alfred State. Sierra Schofield (Delran, NJ / Delran) and Giana DiMora (Greece, NY / Greece Olympia) held strong as they split the game in the Pioneer net.

In the final 20 minutes of the second half, the Pioneer attack came to life. In the 75 minute, Fischer put a shot on goal which forced a full extension save by the Canton goalkeeper.

Another shot on goal by Fischer in the 86 minute, gave the Pioneers a corner kick. The ball was knocked around in the box for 30 seconds, before it found the right leg of Fischer again, as she launched one into the upper-right corner of the net as the last second ticked off the clock.

The Pioneers are back in action Saturday, September 24 when they travel to Gwynedd Mercy for a 3 p.m. match.
