Men’s Volleyball Splits Saturday AMCC Matches

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Penn State Altoona men's volleyball participated in another Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference quad match on Saturday, when the Lions faced off against D'Youville College and Medaille College at Medaille's Sullivan Center.

Penn State Altoona (8-8, 2-5 AMCC) started its day with a 3-0 sweep of D'Youville (3-9, 1-5 AMCC) before losing 3-0 to Medaille (4-9, 4-3 AMCC)

Match 1: Penn State Altoona 3, D'Youville 0

Penn State Altoona snapped its three-match losing streak by sweeping conference opponent D'Youville by scores of 25-14, 26-24, and 25-17.

Ben Beaver (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) totaled a match-high 11 kills for Penn State Altoona, while Dan Downs (Douglassville, PA/Daniel Boone) posted seven kills and a team-high three total blocks (one solo blocks, two block assists). Frank Perehinec (Altoona, PA/Altoona) and Brian Sheddy (Shrewsbury, PA/Susquehannock) each finished with four kills, one solo block, and one block assist.

Sheddy also had match-highs with four service aces and 14 digs.

Kyle Whiteman (Northampton, PA/Northampton) led all players in the match with 19 assists. Tyler Chan (Framingham, MA/Framingham) added eight digs, and Beaver and Perehinec recorded four digs apiece.

Match 2: Medaille 3, Penn State Altoona 0

The Lions were unable to carry their momentum from their first match of the day over to the second, as they suffered a 25-17, 25-21, 25-21 loss to host school Medaille.

Sheddy led Penn State Altoona in kills, digs, and service aces, finishing with eight kills, seven digs, and three aces. Jon Ramsey (Pittsburgh, PA/Shaler) recorded five kills, and Beaver added four kills. Perehinec had one solo block, and Downs and Beaver finished with one block assist each.

Whiteman led the Lions in assists with 10 to go along with six digs, and Danny Dry (Douglassville, PA/Daniel Boone) chipped in six assists. Downs tallied six digs, and Chan recorded five digs.

Men's volleyball returns to action on Wednesday, March 13, when the Lions will travel to face non-conference opponent Messiah College at 7:00 p.m.
