Women's Soccer Hits Trifecta Thanks to AMCC Win Tonight

BUFFALO, N.Y. – After falling behind by one goal after 45-minutes of play, the Hilbert College women's soccer team stormed ahead to beat D'Youville College 2-1 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference action tonight.

With the win, the Hawks set a new AMCC-era win record as they improved to 9-5-1 overall and secured at least the 6th seed in the AMCC play-offs for the first time since the 2009 season.

Additionally, the Hawks swept their Buffalo Cup rivals this fall and gave Hilbert two points in the Buffalo Cup standings.

Freshman Gina Mallone knotted the score at 1-1 five minutes after intermission.  Nicole Plucinski's throw-in was a perfect lead to Mallone who shot the ball from the 18' line.

Then just five minutes later, Jennifer Colvin one-touched a Jackie Morgan shot off the cross bar past the Spartan keeper for the game winner at 55:20.  Colvin lifted her numbers to 11 goals and 6 game-winners (#1 in AMCC) as she fights for an all-conference nod.

Early in the first half, Terra Juda converted a penalty kick at 10:35 for the solo Spartan goal.

Jenna Castricone was credited with four saves in her 15th game of the season.  She currently shares the lead in the league with D'Youville's Megan Dulniak with six shutouts and Behrend's Mackenzie Troyan with nine wins on the season.

D'Youville outshot the Hawks 13-7 while Hilbert held a one corner kick advantage (7-6) over the hosts.

Hilbert closes their regular season schedule this weekend when they travel to Pitt-Greensburg Saturday, October 22.  The current #2 ranked Bobcats (5-1-1) will host Hilbert in a 1pm game.

Hilbert (4-3-1) and #7 Franciscan University (2-5-1) will close their season this weekend while the other eight teams in the conference play their final game October 25.

The 2016 AMCC post season play begins Saturday, October 29th.  The #1 and #2 seeded teams earn 1st Round byes while the #3 seed hosts the #6 seeded team and the #4 seed hosts the #5th seed.
