Women's Basketball Rolls to 71-47 Non-Conference Win

HAMBURG, N.Y. – The Hilbert College women's basketball team shot their way to a 71-47 victory over Alfred State College tonight in their final non-conference game of the 2018 season.

Hilbert, who improved to 15-5, took care of business in the first and third quarters of action, but played even with the Pioneers (6-11) in the second and fourth sessions.

The Hawks opened the first quarter hitting four 3-point shots to pull ahead 19-10 before they cooled off in the second period.  The home team matched offensive efforts with Alfred State (14-14) and went to the locker room with a 33-24 advantage.

The Royal and White took the floor after the break and totally dominated the Pioneers, outscoring them 23-8 before each team settled into a rhythm in the final period playing to a 15-15 score.

Hilbert shot 46.7% from the floor and hit eight shots from beyond the arc (40%) but only made 7-of-18 free throws (38.9%).    Alfred State closed the game hitting 33.3% from the field, made only one 3-point shot and hit 2-of-10 shots at the foul line.

The Hawks owned the glass, outrebounding A-State 56-32, and finished with 22 offensive rebounds, which Hilbert turned into 21-second chance points.

Ashley Repine posted her sixth double-double of the season scoring 13 points and grabbing 17 rebounds.

Kelsi Ebert led the Hawks with 16 points and she and Maegann Mein (five rebounds) were credited with seven and six assists, respectively.

Also reaching double digit scoring were Taylor Corts (13), Emily Gawlak (12, hitting 4-for-5 from deep) and Katelyn Proy (10) who was limited due to foul trouble.

Abbey Monahan gained valuable playing time tonight and posted seven rebounds, four points, two assists and one block.

Hilbert returns to action this weekend when they travel to Steubenville, OH for their second match against Franciscan University February 3rd (4pm).

#1 Hilbert (12-1) and #2 Mt. Aloysius (11-2) have extended their lead (3-game advantage) as their closest AMCC opponents are Bradford and Medaille, who at 8-5, sit in a tie for third place.

Hilbert closes the home-portion of their AMCC games next week when they host #8 D'Youville (4-9) February 7 and #8 Greensburg (4-9) February 10, on Senior Day.  The Hawks complete  their regular season at Penn State Behrend (Feb 14) and Mt. Aloysius (Feb 17).
