Game Recap: Softball |

Softball Falls to League Leaders Twice

HAMBURG, N.Y. – The Hilbert College softball team can compete with anyone.  The Hawks just need to put it all together and battle for the full seven innings.

Hilbert fell to the AMCC leaders, D'Youville College 8-0 and then 10-0 (6 innings) this afternoon.

Jaelyn Gotham (2-8) pitched a complete game (7 innings) and struck four out, walked five and gave up three earned runs in the first game.

The Spartans hit a 3-run home run in the 3rd, and another homerun in the 6th.  Besides their RBI double which was hit in the 4th, D'Youville scored two more unearned runs via defensive errors.

Wyann Jackson and Hannah Prenoveau were the only Hilbert players to earn hits off the 2015 AMCC Pitcher of the Year, who finished the eight strike outs.

The Hawks were again in the night cap game till the top of the 6th inning, when the Spartans unleased five runs to build a +8 run rule win.

D'Youville's first batter hit a home run to start the second game.  After three of D'Youville's next four batters got on base, the Spartans sixth batter hit a 3-run homer to build a 4-0 lead at the middle of the opening inning.

Hilbert didn't send more than three players to the plate each inning as the Spartan pitcher struck only three batters out.  But she grounded and flew out 15 batters and walked one and turned a double play.

Just after Hilbert lined into a double play (second to first base) to end the 3rd inning, the Hawks' defense mimicked that same play to end the top of the 4th when

Prenoveau reacted on the quick hit and threw out the runner at first with Anndrea Quiroga.

Brittany Cooley earned Hilbert solo hit in the 3rd inning.

Rachel Allen took the loss with 5.1 innings of work.  She struck four out, walked eight and gave up six earned runs.  Victoria Dzaak faced two batters in the top of the 6th, credited with a strike out and a ground out.

The softball team closes their 2016 season over the weekend.  They will travel to Alfred State for a rescheduled game on Friday, April 29 then finish the AMCC schedule at Greensburg April 30.
