BOX SCORE - Mount Union vs. Fredonia, 6pm game

HAMBURG, N.Y.
– The Hilbert College men's basketball team will battle Mount Union in the title game of the Hawks Tip-Off Tournament November 19.

Hilbert (2-0) pulled away from Cazenovia College (0-1) midway through the second period to claim a 90-76 victory in the night cap.

Mount Union (OH) had their hands full with our SUNYAC-rival Fredonia in the earlier game tonight.  The Raiders held on for a 72-64 opening game win.

Junior Jalen Smith and sophomore Nicholas Parucki carried the Hawks to victory behind a pair of high 20-point efforts.

Smith went 10-19 from the floor, hitting four of his seven 3-point attempts to finish with 29 points and eight assists.  Parucki posted a career-best 26 points knocking down 12 of 17 attempts, all in the paint, while adding three blocks.

Cazenovia's Nicholas Filippi reached for 23 points as Will Thompson and Josh Gonzalez each pumped in 18 and 16 points respectively.

The Hawks were even at the charity stripe (17- makes) with Cazenovia but Hilbert out-rebounded the Wildcats 51-34 and held a 48.6% to 40.6% advantage from the floor.

Derrek Carman added 12 points while Joseph Braniecki was credited with a team-high nine rebounds.

Cazenovia  will face Fredonia Saturday in the 1pm consolation game.  The Blue Devils dropped their second game in as many tries to Mount Union who opened their season here tonight.

DeAllen  Jackson controlled the tempo on his Raiders' team scoring 22 points, leading with seven rebounds and four assists.  He went 4 for 9 from deep and hit 9 of 15 shots from the floor.  JJ Kukura and Andrew Francesconi each reached double-digits, hitting 12 and 10 points respectively.

Fredonia got balanced scoring from four different players led by Nicc Johnson who collected 13 points, hitting three of four from beyond the arc.  Kareem Brown (12) and Ian Helps as well as Brandon Hodge (10 each) were better than 50% field goal shooters.

Neither team held an eye-popping advantage with stat as only two rebounds separated their efforts on the glass, and one free throw from the foul line.  Mount Union did connect for 12 three-point shot while Fredonia sank seven deep balls.  The foul line was not friendly to Fredonia as they finished with 52.9% from the floor.

Hilbert and Mount Union will square-off (3pm) for the first time in coach Rob deGrandpre's 15 year career at Hilbert.

Both games will be live streamed at no cost.  Fans who wish to view High Definition video may purchase a $5 ticket.  At the conclusion of the tournament, five men will be introduced as All Tournament players and the winning team will walk away with the Tip-Off Tournament championship plaque.
