CRESSON, Pa. – Sinking his first three of the day with four-seconds remaining turned out to be
Trevor Stark's most important hit of the game. Breaking the game's fifth tie, Stark's long ball gave Hilbert a 74-71 road win to remain perfect after five games with two AMCC victories. Mount Aloysius moved to 1-1 in AMCC and 3-3 overall after their loss.
Sean Weisansal led the Hawks with 19 points and
Jerame Owens posted another double-double with 16 points/ 15 rebounds. Both Weisansal (3) and Owens (5) were tough on defense combining for 8 of the team's 11 blocks. Those two were also credited with five (Weisansal) and four (Owens) assists and trailed
Trevor Stark who earned a game-high seven assists. Stark padded his stats with seven points and five rebounds and two steals.
Jordan Kumro and
Malique McCoy both knocked down 50% of their three-point shots to finish with 11 and 10 points respectively.
Hilbert finished the game shooting 46% from the field but were a season-low 37.5% from the foul line.
Mount Aloysius had five players post double figures led by Nolan Doyle's 18 points. Joe Dziabo matched a double-double feat by Owens after he scored 13 points and pulled down 10 rebounds. The Mounties shot 36% from the floor and kept the game tight by sinking 21-30 free throws (70%).
The hosts took the game's first lead before
Sean Weisansal's traditional three-point play reversed the advantage. McCoy knocked down a three to give Hilbert a 6-2 lead. Then, after forcing two ties over the next three minutes, Mount Aloysius took their lead back at 15:06. Both teams traded baskets and at 8:11 the Hawks forced their last first half tie score. Missed shots, fouls and turnovers gave the hosts just enough wiggle room to build a seven point lead which was cut to four (37-33) by the break.
Jerame Owens knotted the second half score twice and the Hawks got help from
Xavier Major's lay-up at 12:05 to force the last tie before Hilbert took their first lead in the second half at 9:37. Hilbert maintained their slight lead over the next six minutes until Dziabo's score in the paint evened the score at 63-63.
Jordan Kumro and Weisansal hit back-to-back three pointers to maintain a three point lead (69-66) but Mountie foul shots matched the score again at 1:20.
Trevor Stark scored a lay-up twenty-five seconds later to regain the a two-point lead which disappeared when Nolan Doyle sank two freebies with 0:20 on the clock.
With four seconds remaining, Stark's long ball gave Hilbert their three-point win on the road and stretched their winning streak to five games in 2014-15.
