Men’s Soccer Blanks W&J 1-0

WASHINGTON, Pa. – Penn State Altoona men's soccer picked up its first road win of the season on Wednesday night, when the Lions shut out Washington & Jefferson College 1-0 at Alexandre Stadium.

Jordan Francis (East Stroudsburg, PA/Notre Dame East Stroudsburg) scored the game's lone goal midway through the second half to break a scoreless tie. Tanner Yaw (Palmyra, PA/Palmyra) made six stops in goal to record his third career shutout for Penn State Altoona (2-4).

The Lions withstood a first half by W&J (2-2) that saw the Presidents post a 9-3 lead in shots. Despite the shot differential, Penn State Altoona kept W&J off of the scoreboard, and the teams went into halftime deadlocked at 0-0.

The Lions finally broke through for the game's first goal at 71:52. Jon Kadoch's (Wallingford, PA/Strath Haven) free kick from just inside midfield found Francis, who headed the ball past the keeper to give Penn State Altoona a 1-0 lead. The goal was Francis' second of the season, while the assist represented the first collegiate point for Kadoch.

After that, Penn State Altoona held W&J without a shot on goal for the remainder of the period, hanging on to the one-goal lead to seal the win.

Overall, W&J led Penn State Altoona in shots attempted (15-7), shots on goal (6-5), and corner kicks (7-4).

Jinkwon Song paced the Lions in shots with two attempted, both on goal. Jack Price (Unionville, PA/Unionville) also attempted two shots, putting one on goal. Francis and Dakota Casey (Norwalk, CT/Canterbury) accounted for Penn State Altoona's other shots on goal.

Penn State Altoona men's soccer's next game is Tuesday, September 17, when the Lions travel to play regional non-conference foe Juniata College at 6:30 p.m.
