Women's Soccer Controlled Pace But Finished in Tie

UTICA, N.Y.  – The Hilbert Women's Soccer team finished in a scoreless tie with SUNY Poly this afternoon.

THE BASICS
  • Final Score:  Hilbert 0   I   SUNY Poly 0
  • Location:  Wildcats Field | SUNY Poly
  • Records:   Hilbert 0-1-2  I  SUNY Poly 1-1-1
HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Hilbert pressed all game, creating separation from the Wildcat defenders but they were unable to find the back of the net in the 90-minute non-conference contest.
  • The Hawks created the pace in the game and continuously pressed forward on attack.
  • Defensively, the back line took angles away from Poly and limited their attack with quick steals at the feet and returned the ball back through the midfield.
  • With just over five minutes left in the game, Gabrielle Avallone unleashed a hard shot from outside the box but the ball bounced off the cross bar back into play.
  • Hilbert's second-half goalie. Hailey Kuder, broke up a crossing pass with 65-seconds left in regulation and sailed the ball down the field.  The Hawks attempted a corner with multiple opportunities inside the 40 to finish but came up empty.
GAME NOTES
  • Tahlia Kosek started the game and was credited with the one Hilbert save.
  • Hilbert dominated on offensive outshooting the Wildcats 21-8 and built a 9-1 advantage in shots on goal as well as an 11-5 margin in corner kicks.
  • Grace Zabawa (6), Vanessa Van Slyke (5) and Gabrielle Avallone (5) found their rhythm up top and combined for 16 of Hilbert's 21 shots.
