Grace Adams made a great save on a point-blank shot by La Roche
Hawks Open AMCC with Loss
Box Score HAMBURG, N.Y. – Vanessa Ceravolo scored twice for La Roche College as the visiting RedHawks took at 3-0 score to half time and held that lead to the final horn to claim the AMCC victory over Hilbert College September 27. Hilbert's
Grace Adams was credited with six saves as the Hawks move to 0-1 in the league standings.
Hilbert opened the game in control of the pace. They outshot the visitors 11-7 and forced five saves before the break. But it was a tripping call in the box that gave La Roche a PK at 10:13 which seemed to take the momentum away from the hosts. Tiffanie Atkins connected to the lower right corner for the second score (38:35) and six minutes later, Ceravolo came out on top in a scramble in front of the net when she snuck a loose ball home.
After the break, Hilbert continued to play hard and controlled the ball. Brooklyn Gormel saved the day when she rushed to the center of the field and prevented a one on one with Adams that certainly could have gotten a good angle to the back of the net.
Hilbert had a great chance with just over two minutes remaining when
Courtney Vaccaro centered the ball off a restart right to
Jennifer Colvin whose shot hit the post.
Jackie Morgan (5 shots),
Jennifer Colvin (4) and
Chelsea Olson (4) led the offensive attack. Hilbert outshot La Roche 19-13 but had three additional looks at the frame than Hilbert which resulted in the final score.
