The Lead: The Roanoke College softball team opened the 2022 season with a double header against Pitt-Bradford on Saturday afternoon. The Maroons wasted little time in jumping on their guests with eight runs in the first three innings on their way to an 8-0, five-inning win in their season debut. How it Happened:

  • Shanan Hester singled to score Jordyn DiFava in the bottom of the first.
  • Jada Karnes singled to start the inning ahead of a pair of walks that would load the bases. Meri Bostic singled to left to plate Karnes and Makayla Austin as Roanoke took a 3-0 lead.
  • A Karnes double would plate Meagen Evans and advanced to third on an Austin base hit. Riley Croghan walked to load the bases and set up a five-run inning that was capped by two more Bostic RBI.
  • Eight runs were more than enough support for Karnes who pitched five shutout innings, giving up just two hits while recording nine strikeouts.
  • Bostic was 2-3 with 4-RBI while Karnes went 2-2 with a pair of runs and an RBI.
