Eagles Snag First Win of the Season on the Road

McKEAN COUNTY, Pa.- The Juniata women's basketball team visited Pitt.-Bradford on Saturday afternoon resulting in an enjoyable ride back to Huntingdon for the Eagles after defeating the Panthers 72-51.

In the first quarter, the Eagles came out hot to put up their largest scoring quarter with 24 points. Haily Sherman (Marysville, Pa. / Susquenita High School) and Kynnedy Miller (Huntingdon, Pa. / Huntingdon Area HS) both had four points in the first quarter paired with four rebounds from Averie Hess (Jersey Shore, Pa. / Jersey Shore). The Eagle defense was exceptional in the opening frame, as they held Pitt-Bradford to a measly five points.

In quarter two, the Eagles were able to slide by the Panthers again to outscore them 19-15, putting the score at 43-20 at the end of the half. Grace Long (Harrisburg, Pa. / Central Dauphin) led the team with 10 points, and Averie Hess (Jersey Shore, Pa. / Jersey Shore) sat right behind her with seven.

Hess was able to tie it down for the Eagles in the second half by putting up 11 points to get her to a career-high of 18. The third quarter was the only frame that the hosts outscored the Eagles, as Pitt-Bradford managed 18 to the Eagles 13.

The Panthers got within 13 with a little under five minutes to go in the game. Cassie Mock (Martinsburg, Pa. / Central Martinsburg) drilled a three off a Taylor Vrabel (Chambersburg, Pa. / Chambersburg) assist, Vrabel scored inside off a pass from Hess, and Mock stole the ball away and found Hess for a layup to push the lead back to 20 to ice the game.

The Eagles will return to their home court on Friday, November 19th, as they host Lycoming with a 1:00 pm tip-off.
