Roof Wins 100th as Panthers Sweep Tri-match

Bradford, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford Volleyball team won both of its games during their tri-match Saturday, beating Mount Aloysius 3-0 to start the day and closing with a straight-set win over Alfred.

The first game of the day saw the Panthers open their AMCC schedule in a game with Mount Aloysius. The Panthers opened strong with a 25-11 win in set one, had a tougher challenge in the middle set that ended 25-19, and wrapped up with a 25-8 win in the third.

Olivia Reese led the Panthers with a 13 kill performance in the match. She posted a  .423 hitting percentage for the game, added 6 digs and a block assist. Emily Cleveland was just behind with 11. Jordan Sitler added 9 kills on 17 swings, while Kaitlyn Sexton had 5 kills on 7 attacks and was a part of 3 total blocks. Tabitha Walker had 36 assists in the match while adding 5 kills, a service ace, and 4 digs. Kayla Maslowski led the defensive effort with 14 digs, while Stephanie Carson notched 12.

The win was the 100th in head coach Tom Roof's career. Roof has led the Panthers for 7 seasons and won 2 AMCC Championships. He is the 2nd Pitt-Bradford volleyball coach to reach the milestone, after his predecessor Tina Phillips reached it in 2010.

The second match of the day saw the Panthers return to non-conference action with a matchup against Alfred University. The Panthers breezed through the Saxons, winning each set comfortably. They took the first 25-15, won the second 25-11, and closed with a 25-13 win in the third.

Reese once again led the Panthers, this time with 9 kills. She also had 16 digs and 2 service aces. Emily Cleveland also finished with 9 kills and two blocks. Tabitha Walker added another 25 assists to her season tally, had 2 more service aces and 4 kills. Jordan Sitler and Kaitlin Sexton each had 3 blocks.

The Panthers are now 13-3 on the season and have won 12 straight matches. They will have the next week off, before heading to Pittsburgh to take on La Roche University on Saturday, Oct. 2. The game is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start.
