Bradford, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's basketball team whittled a 21 point second-half deficit down to just four points but was unable to complete the comeback as they fell to Alfred State 94-86.

• Both teams got off to a strong start as they split 14 points over the opening 3 minutes of play. Dylan Meyer got the Panthers started with two baskets inside, and Nathan Schneider answered a Pioneer three with one of his own. After the Schneider long ball, the Pioneers were able to build a 5 point advantage, but the Panthers scored a quick seven points to tie the game and take a small lead. Gus Naploelon made a three on the wing and Greg Archie converted a layup in transition before Schneider cut inside to make another layup to put the Panthers up 17-15.
• Alfred State quickly responded and retook the lead twice following a pair of Caden Beldin layups, and then shut down the Panthers for a three-minute span with their full-court pressure defense which allowed them to open up a 10 point lead. Alex Rodriguez splashed a three from the corner to temporarily slow the Pioneers, The Panthers hit four free throws and saw Schneider score 7 points in the final 10 minutes of the first half, but saw the Pioneers respond and add to their lead, taking a 13 point advantage into the break.
• In the second half, Greg Archie got the Panthers on the board first, but Alfred State responded a three and a quick fast-break basket after forcing a turnover in the backcourt. The Panthers continued to find some offensive success in the first five minutes of the half but saw each of their baskets quickly answered by the visitors. The Pioneers were able to keep the Panthers to just one point over a 5-minute span, which allowed them to extend their advantage to 21 points with 11:49 remaining.
• After a putback layup gave the Pioneers their largest advantage, freshman Hayden Adams quickly hit a triple from the corner to begin the Panther comeback. The Panthers took advantage of the momentum shift as they were able to stop the Pioneer offense on back-to-back possessions and turn the stops into points as Schneider cut inside to make a layup and Trey Oyler drilled a three in transition to force an Alfred State timeout.
• The Alfred State timeout seemed to slow down both teams, as neither was able to score over the next three minutes. A Greg Archie free throw broke the scoreless run and after an Alfred state jumper, Adams hit a second three to cut the lead to 11 points. Alfred State was able to push their lead back to 14 over the next few minutes, but the final five minutes of play saw a furious comeback attempt. The Panthers quickly scored 9 unanswered points over a 90-second span to reduce the deficit to 4 points. Beldin hit a pair of free throws to start the rally, and the Panthers added three layups in transition, two from Schneider and one from Archie, and an Archie free throw to complete it.
• Over the final two minutes, the Pioneers pushed their lead back to 8-points and saw it whittled to as few as four, but clutch free-throw shooting in the final minutes saw the visitors put the game away. 

Nathan Schneider once again led all scorers with 27 points. He made 10-17 from the field, including 2-5 from three, and added 5 free throws. He also was the game's leading rebounder as he pulled in 13 rebounds. Greg Archie finished with 14 points and added 4 assists. Caden Beldin tied his season-high as he scored 12 points in 15 minutes of action. He was both 4-4 from the field and 4-4 from the line, while also grabbing 5 rebounds. Hayden Adams set a new season-high with 9 points, making 3-5 from beyond the arc.

The loss drops the Panthers to 8-10 on the season with a 3-6 record in AMCC play. They will look to end their 3-game skid against Penn State-Altoona on Saturday at 4:00 p.m.
