Big 2nd Half Run Helps Hawks to Victory

Hilbert used a 15 to 4 run midway through the 2nd half as they took control of a back and forth contest vs. Alfred State on Saturday. The Hawks held the lead after the run the rest of the way en route to a 73-60 victory.

The contest was tied at 42-42 with 13:34 remaining when the Hawks went on what would end up be the game-deciding run. Prior to the big run, the game had featured 13 lead changes and 10 ties. Alfred State tried to battle back into the game but could never get closer than nine.

Tahaij Lewis (Rochester/Greece Olympia) led the Pioneers (3-3) with 17 points and added six boards. Juwan Toliver (Buffalo/McKinley) finished an around performance with 10 points, seven rebounds, and six assists while Dante Jordan (New York/Law & Public) came off the bench and finished with 10.

Masia Phillips led the Hawks (3-2) with 19 points while Hunter Martineau finished with 17 points and six assists. Joseph Braniecki recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 boards.

After shooting 48.1% in the 1st half the Pioneers went cold in the 2nd and shot only 28.6%. They were 5 for 18 from three on the game and struggled from the foul line hitting only 13 of 24 attempts. Hilbert shot 43.6% from the field for the game, hit 6 of 15 three-point attempts, and was 19 for 25 from the foul line. The Hawks also held a 40 to 34 advantage on the glass.

The blue & gold are back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Buffalo State for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off vs. the Bengals.
