Softball Ties Program AMCC Win Record After Split Today

HAMBURG, N.Y. -  The Hilbert College Softball team split their AMCC and Buffalo Cup series this afternoon in their final home game of the 2018 season.

The Hawks, who won the opener 13-9 and dropped the night cap 9-0, improved to 15-14 and 9-8 the league.

With their 3pm win, the softball team tied the program's best league win record set in 2005, which was the only time the program qualified for the post-season.

Hilbert has one final game on their schedule and a win would help keep their chances alive for their second post-season bid.  There are five other league opponents who have at least two games left to play before the final seedings for post-season can be established.

Morgan McNeill went 4-for-6 and added 4RBI and scored two runs today.

GAME ONE

Trailing 6-0 at the bottom of the 5th, Hilbert manufactured six runs to knot the game and added five more in the bottom of the 6th for the win.

Nateal Papasergi also reached beyond the fence for a 2-run homer before Morgan McNeill hit another 2-run single slicing the margin to one run.  Gabriella Bongiorno singled down the left field line scoring McNeill and Melanie Basile for the Hawks' first lead, 7-6.

With bases loaded in the 6th Basile walked Papasergi home and McNeill and Bongiorno each hit 2RBI singles for the win.

Rachel Allen struck out seven, walked three with 17 hits and six earned runs for her 9th win in the circle.

GAME TWO

Morgan McNeill earned two hits, the only contact made by a Hawk in the night-cap.

McIntyre struck out four with eight hits through three innings.  Allen closed the game with three hits and three runs in the final two innings of the 5-inning game.

Don't forget to stop by the Dobson Field tomorrow night for the 6pm make-up game against Mt. Aloysius.
