Panthers Unable to Keep up With Hot Shooting Redhawks

Pittsburgh, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's basketball team fell behind early on Saturday as their hosts LaRoche shot 55.6% from beyond the arc in the first half to pull away from the Panthers early. The Panthers were never able to keep up with the Redhawks as they fell 88-61.

  • The Panthers fell behind early as LaRoche took a 3-point lead within the opening minute of the game. After a pair of LaRoche free throws, Nathan Schneider completed an old-fashioned three-point play to cut the lead to 5-4, but the Panthers only mustered another Schneider layup over the next 5 minutes of play as the Redhawks scored 13 in the span to open up a thirteen advantage. The Panthers ended the rally with back-to-back baskets in the paint from Greg and Isaiah Archie.
  • The hosts responded immediately with another 10-point run that was unanswered by Pitt-Bradford. Isaiah Archie tried to keep the Panthers close as he scored 8 points in the last 6 minutes of the half. Schneider added 4 more as he added two free throws and a layup. Archie made one final layup with 30 seconds left in the half to send the game to the break with the Panthers trailing 44-24.
  • Greg Archie got things started in the second half by making a driving layup but saw his basket quickly answered with 5 LaRoche points. Isaiah Archie scored 4 more points in short order but was forced out of the game with 15:50 on the clock with an injury.
  • The Panthers were able to keep the deficit around 20 points as Schneider scored 9 more second-half points, while Alex Rodriguez stepped in and scored 10. This included a stretch where he scored 9 straight panther points. The Panthers went to the bench late as Devin Moultrie and Jackson Glover added late baskets. Moultrie made two layups inside, including the final basket of the game.

Schneider led all scorers in the game, as he finished with 18 points. He made 7 of 15 from the field and added 4 of 6 from the line. He also had a game-high in rebounds with 11 and added 4 assists. He registered his 11th double-double of the season. Isaiah Archie finished with 15 points in only 23 minutes of action after being forced to the sideline with an injury. Alex Rodriguez was the only other Panther to finish in double-figures as he scored 10 points. He also grabbed 4 rebounds, all on the offensive end.

The Panthers drop to 8-9 on the season with an AMCC record of 3-5. They will begin the second half of their conference schedule on Wednesday as they Host Alfred State. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. in KOA Arena.
