Penn State-Altoona Races Past Panthers

Bradford, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's basketball team was unable to keep up with the fast pace offense of Penn State Altoona, falling 86-55 to the Lions on Saturday afternoon.

Game Notes:

  • The Panthers struggled to get going against the Penn State-Altoona pressure defense, as they were held scoreless through the opening 2:30 of play, while the Lions built a 7-0 lead. Dylan Meyer got the Panther offense started with a layup on a pass from Deondre Terwilliger.
  • Meyer cut the lead to 6 points with 15 minutes to go in the half on a mid-range jumper, before the Lions defense clamped down on the Panthers, allowing them to go on a 14-1 run. The run came to an end with just under 8 minutes to go in the half when Nick Carmichael made a putback layup, and after a defensive stop, Alex Breindel hit a three-pointer on a feed from Jefferey Fry.
  • The Panthers closed the half on a second long scoring drought after another Breindel three with 6:17 to go. Pitt-Bradford was held scoreless in the final 6 minutes of play in the half. The Panther defense was able to keep the Lions in check during that drought, allowing them to score only 8 points of their own during the span to head to the halftime break trailing by 19.
  • Pitt-Bradford was able to increase their scoring output through the second half, but the faster pace also allowed the Lions to score at a faster clip.
  • Penn State-Altoona was able to push their lead over 30 points within the first 6 minutes of play in the second half. The Panthers made a quick run of their own scoring 6 straight over a 40-second span, only to see the Lions end the run spectacularly on an alley-oop dunk off of an inbound play.
  • The Lions coasted through the remainder of the game, with their lead fluctuating between 25 and 34 points.

Leaders:

  • Freshman Forward Dylan Meyer was a bright spot for the Panthers, leading them in scoring and rebounding. Meyer scored 15 points on 7-11 shooting and grabbed 13 rebounds to record his first career double-double and set a new career-high in both statistics.
  • Jefferey Fry was the only other Panther to finish in double digits, scoring 10 points for Pitt-Bradford. He shot 3-7 from the field, including making 2-6 from three and hitting both free throws he attempted.
  • Miles Parker added 9 points for the Panthers and Alex Breindel scored 6 points and grabbed 8 rebounds.

The Panthers are now 1-12 on the season with a 0-8 record in AMCC play. They will be back on the road for their next contest, as they head to Buffalo for a midweek game at D'Youville. The game is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m.
