Pioneers Tripped up at Utica

Utica used an 11-0 run to take a lead that they would never give up as they defeated Alfred State 74-49 on Saturday afternoon.

Alfred State led 16-15 late in the 1st quarter but Utica went on a 11-0 run that spanned the last five seconds of the 1st quarter and the first couple minutes of the 2nd. Utica led 41-27 at the half and added to their lead in the 2nd half.

Ivette Lewandowski (Springville Griffith) led Alfred State with 19 points (4 for 11 from three). Emily Kelley (Andover) recorded a double-double with 12 points and 15 rebounds. Alfred State shot 29.9% for the contest and were outrebounded 44 to 36.

Sydndy Przydgoda led Utica (2-0) with 18 points and nine boards. Julianna Beaulieu scored 14 and Krissy Geraci added 10. Utica's bench outscored the Pioneers 28 to 5 in the game. UC shot 43.3% from the field in the contest.

The Pioneers have a week off before they play in the Alfred Classic next Saturday. On day one, the Pioneers host SUNY Delhi at 4 p.m. The game follows the Alfred University - Hiram contest that tips off at 2 p.m.
