Eden leads MBB over Franciscan at BB&T Classic

WINCHESTER, Va. – Elizabethtown fed Josh Eden early and often Sunday, riding the junior center's career-high 27 points to a 73-61 victory over Franciscan (Ohio) in the consolation game of the BB&T Classic at Shenandoah University.

Eden registered his third game of 20 or more points this season, bypassing any looks the Barons threw his way in making a career-high 13 buckets on 16 attempts.

Elizabethtown (2-5) shot a season best 51.9% (27-of-52) and connected on a season-high seven threes, four of which came from junior guard Matt Lapkowicz.

The two teams swapped the lead 12 times in the first half, but Eden and Lapkowicz combined for the final seven points to push the Blue Jays in front, 39-33, at halftime.

E-town would not relinquish its lead the rest of the way. Eden scored the Jays' first six points of the second half and Lapkowicz the next four. Elizabethtown opened its first double-digit lead of the afternoon, 59-48, with 7:10 remaining.

Eden, who was 6-of-8 for 12 points in the first 20 minutes, cemented his spot on the All-Tournament Team by making 7-of-8 shots for 15 points in the second.

Lapkowicz finished with 18 points, seven rebounds and four steals in 33 minutes, and has now scored in double figures in six consecutive games.

The Blue Jays shot almost 60% in the first half, going 16-of-27 from the floor, while the Barons (0-4) were good on 14-of-29 tries (48.3%). Elizabethtown did a much better job defensively after the half, holding Franciscan to 10-of-30 in the second.

The Barons shot just eight free throws in the game, the fewest by an E-town opponent in more than four seasons.

Matt Lane collected seven points and seven assists, and Tommy James had eight points for the Blue and Gray. Elizabethtown was better on the glass by 10 rebounds, 39-29, Sunday.

Franciscan was led by Keoni Sablan's 26 points, 18 of which came on 6-of-7 shooting from 3-point range. Christian Duke contributed 17 points and Jacob Divens a game-high 10 assists.

The Blue Jays venture into conference play Wednesday, as they head to Juniata for a 7 p.m. tip.
